RESUMO

Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most common malignancies in women and the leading cause of cancer-related death in women. The newly emerged non-coding RNAs tsRNAs (tRNA-derived small RNAs) play an important role in the occurrence and development of BC. The purpose of this study was to comprehensively evaluate the prognostic, diagnostic and clinicopathological roles of tsRNAs in BC. Through literature screening, a total of 13 BC-related tsRNA studies were included in this meta-analysis, all of which passed quality assessment. Prognostic studies showed upregulated tsRNAs to be associated with poor survival outcomes (HR = 1.64, 95%CI 1.51-1.77) and downregulated tsRNAs to be associated with better outcomes (HR = 0.58, 95%CI 0.50-0.68). Results of diagnostic studies showed a combined sensitivity of 72% (95%CI 68-76%) and combined specificity of 64% (95%CI 61-67%); the AUC was 0.72 (95%CI 0.68-0.75) and the DOR 4.62 (95%CI 3.76-5.68). Finally, correlation analysis of clinicopathological features showed that downregulation of tsRNAs correlated significantly with age, TNM stage and lymphatic metastasis. Sensitivity analysis and publication bias showed no significant difference. In conclusion, BC-associated tsRNAs are closely related to the prognosis and clinicopathological features of patients with this disease and can be used to assist in early diagnosis of BC. Therefore, tsRNAs are potential targets for the diagnosis and treatment of BC.

RESUMO

SMAD3 downregulation is documented in transforming growth factor ß1 (TGF-ß1)-induced corneal fibroblasts differentiation to myofibroblasts ("fibroTOmyoDiff") or corneal wound healing. However, the exact regulatory mechanism of TGF-ß1/SMAD3 pathway in this context remains unclear. Here, we investigated the role and related mechanism of SMAD3 down-regulation in TGF-ß1-induced human corneal fibroTOmyoDiff. By detecting expression changes of SMAD family during this process, we demonstrated that SMAD3 protein expression was dramatically decreased in the process and the decrease occurred mainly in SMAD3 gene transcription. Furthermore, SMAD3 overexpression using lentivirus infection and knockdown using sgRNA lentivirus infection or siRNAs revealed that SMAD3 overexpression enhanced TGF-ß1-induced corneal fibroTOmyoDiff and vice versa. In addition, specific siRNAs and inhibitors targeting particular signaling pathway were used to figure out the intracellular signaling pathway regulating SMAD3, and the result showed that the decease of SMAD3 induced by TGF-ß1 stimulation in human corneal fibroblasts (HCFs) was strikingly prevented by SMAD4 knockdown or p38 signaling inhibitor SB203580 treatment. Collectively, these results demonstrate that, in TGF-ß1 induced corneal fibroTOmyoDiff, down-regulation of SMAD3 expression regulated by SMAD4 and p38 signaling pathways forms a negative feedback loop of TGFß signaling to avoid excessive activation of the signaling, which suggest that SMAD3 may be a key target for corneal fibrosis treatment.

RESUMO

Plant growth and development rely heavily on cyclins, which comprise an important class of cell division regulators. D-type cyclins (CYCDs) are responsible for the rate-limiting step of G1 cells. In the plant kingdom, despite the importance of CYCDs in herbaceous plants, there is little knowledge of these proteins in perennial woody plants. Here, the gene of a nucleus-localized cyclin, PsnCYCD1;1, was cloned from Populus simonii × P. nigra. PsnCYCD1;1 was highly expressed in tissues with active cell division, especially the leaf buds, and could be induced by sucrose and phytohormones. Moreover, overexpression of PsnCYCD1;1 in poplar could stimulate cell division, resulting in the generation of small cells and causing severe morphological changes in the vascular bundles, resulting in 'S'-shaped tortuous stems and curled leaves. Furthermore, transcriptomic analysis revealed that endogenous genes related to cell division and vascular cambium development were significantly up-regulated in the transgenic plants. In addition, using yeast two-hybrid and bimolecular fluorescence complementation assays PsnCDKA1, PsnICK3, and PsnICK5 were identified as proteins interacting with PsnCYCD1;1. Our study demonstrates that PsnCYCD1;1 accelerates plant cell division and participates in secondary growth of vascular bundles in poplar.

RESUMO

The Ethylene Responsive Factor (ERF) transcription factor family is important for regulating plant growth and stress responses. Although the expression patterns of ERF family members have been reported in many plant species, their role in Populus alba × Populus glandulosa, an important model plant for forest research, remains unclear. In this study, we identified 209 PagERF transcription factors by analyzing the P. alba × P. glandulosa genome. We analyzed their amino acid sequences, molecular weight, theoretical pI (Isoelectric point), instability index, aliphatic index, grand average of hydropathicity, and subcellular localization. Most PagERFs were predicted to localize in the nucleus, with only a few PagERFs localized in the cytoplasm and nucleus. Phylogenetic analysis divided the PagERF proteins into ten groups, Class I to X, with those belonging to the same group containing similar motifs. Cis-acting elements associated with plant hormones, abiotic stress responses, and MYB binding sites were analyzed in the promoters of PagERF genes. We used transcriptome data to analyze the expression patterns of PagERF genes in different tissues of P. alba × P. glandulosa, including axillary buds, young leaves, functional leaves, cambium, xylem, and roots, and the results indicated that PagERF genes are expressed in all tissues of P. alba × P. glandulosa, especially in roots. Quantitative verification results were consistent with transcriptome data. When P. alba × P. glandulosa seedlings were treated with 6% polyethylene glycol 6000 (PEG6000), the results of RT-qRCR showed that nine PagERF genes responded to drought stress in various tissues. This study provides a new perspective on the roles of PagERF family members in regulating plant growth and development, and responses to stress in P. alba × P. glandulosa. Our study provides a theoretical basis for ERF family research in the future.

RESUMO

The efficacy of cisplatin in treating advanced non-small cell lung cancer is limited mainly because of insensitivity and/or acquired resistance. MAPK15, previously shown by us to enhance the sensitivity of the anti-cancer drug arsenic trioxide, could also enhance the sensitivity of other anti-cancer drugs. Here, we explore the potential role of MAPK15 in chemosensitivity to cisplatin in human lung cancer cells. Our results indicated that the expression level of MAPK15 was positively correlated with cisplatin sensitivity through affecting the DNA repair capacity of cisplatin-treated cells. The expression of MAPK15 was transcriptionally regulated by the TNF-α-activated NF-κB signaling pathway, and TNF-α synergized with cisplatin, in a MAPK15-dependent manner, to exert cytotoxicity in vitro and in vivo. Therefore, levels of TNF-α dictate the responsiveness/sensitivity of lung cancer cells to cisplatin by transcriptionally upregulating MAPK15 to enhance chemosensitivity, suggesting manipulation of MAPK15 as a strategy to improve the therapeutic efficacy of chemotherapeutic drugs.

RESUMO

Purpose: To describe the development of bacterial keratitis after small incision lenticule extraction in 5 patients and to explore its appropriate therapies. Methods: We retrospectively summarized the clinical treatments of five patients with postoperative bacterial infection after small incision lenticule extraction, who were referred to our hospital from 2019 to 2021. Results: Five male patients had undergone bilateral SMILE in the local hospital due to myopia aged from 18 to 26 years. The onset of keratitis during 1-3 days postoperatively and four of them were severe infection (2 bilateral, 2 unilateral). In five cases, 1 patient (1 eye) who was infected mild keratitis after SMILE was treated with only topical antibiotics; the others who respond poorly to topical antibiotics require surgical treatment, which 1 patient (1 eye) infected necrotic mass of the corneal cap was scraped and irrigated with antibiotic, and 3 patients (5 eyes) were treated by converting the cap to flap, curetting the necrotic tissue and irrigating with the antibiotic solution. In all patients, the duration from onset to resolution was 1-5 weeks. The final uncorrected visual acuity was above 20/32. Conclusion: Owing to the upward popularity of refractive surgery, the incidence of keratitis after SMILE should not be ignored. Early diagnosis and timely treatment of post-SMILE keratitis are essential. For severe keratitis that fails to respond to topical antibiotics, the corneal cap should be opened as a flap.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To investigate the value of contrast-enhanced CT (CECT)-derived imaging features in predicting lymphovascular invasion (LVI) status in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients. METHODS: One hundred and ninety-seven patients with postoperative pathologically confirmed esophageal squamous cell carcinoma treated in our hospital between January 2017 and January 2019 were enrolled in our study, including fifty-nine patients with LVI and one hundred and thirty-eight patients without LVI. The CECT-derived imaging features of all patients were analyzed. The CECT-derived imaging features were divided into quantitative features and qualitative features. The quantitative features consisted of the CT attenuation value of the tumor (CTVTumor), the CT attenuation value of the normal esophageal wall (CTVNormal), the CT attenuation value ratio of the tumor-to-normal esophageal wall (TNR), the CT attenuation value difference between the tumor and normal esophageal wall (ΔTN), the maximum thickness of the tumor measured by CECT (Thickness), the maximum length of the tumor measured by CECT (Length), and the gross tumor volume measured by CECT (GTV). The qualitative features consisted of an enhancement pattern, tumor margin, enlarged blood supply or drainage vessels to the tumor (EVFDT), and tumor necrosis. For the clinicopathological characteristics and CECT-derived imaging feature analysis, the chi-squared test was used for categorical variables, the Mann-Whitney U test was used for continuous variables with a nonnormal distribution, and the independent sample t-test was used for the continuous variables with a normal distribution. The trend test was used for ordinal variables. The association between LVI status and CECT-derived imaging features was analyzed by univariable logistic analysis, followed by multivariable logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. RESULTS: The CTVTumor, TNR, ΔTN, Thickness, Length, and GTV in the group with LVI were higher than those in the group without LVI (P < 0.05). A higher proportion of patients with heterogeneous enhancement pattern, irregular tumor margin, EVFDT, and tumor necrosis were present in the group with LVI (P < 0.05). As revealed by the univariable logistic analysis, the CECT-derived imaging features, including CTVTumor, TNR, ΔTN and enhancement pattern, Thickness, Length, GTV, tumor margin, EVFDT, and tumor necrosis were associated with LVI status (P < 0.05). Only the TNR (OR 8.655; 95% CI 2.125-37.776), Thickness (OR 6.531; 95% CI 2.410-20.608), and tumor margin (OR 4.384; 95% CI 2.004-9.717) were independent risk factors for LVI in the multivariable logistic regression analysis. The ROC curve analysis incorporating the above three CECT-derived imaging features showed that the area under the curve obtained by the multivariable logistic regression model was 0.820 (95% CI 0.754-0.885). CONCLUSION: The CECT-derived imaging features, including TNR, Thickness, tumor margin, and their combination, can be used as predictors of LVI status for patients with ESCC.

RESUMO

The D-type cyclin (CYCD) gene, as the rate-limiting enzyme in the G1 phase of cell cycle, plays a vital role in the process of plant growth and development. Early studies on plant cyclin mostly focused on herbs, such as Arabidopsis thaliana. The sustainable growth ability of woody plants is a unique characteristic in the study of plant cyclin. Here, the promoter of PsnCYCD1;1 was cloned from poplar by PCR and genetically transformed into tobacco. A strong GUS activity was observed in the areas with vigorous cell division, such as stem tips, lateral buds, and young leaves. The PsnCYCD1;1-GFP fusion expression vector was transformed into tobacco, and the green fluorescence signal was observed in the nucleus. Compared with the control plant, the transgenic tobacco showed significant changes in the flower organs, such as enlargement of sepals, petals, and fruits. Furthermore, the stems of transgenic plants were slightly curved at each stem node, the leaves were curled on the adaxial side, and the fruits were seriously aborted after artificial pollination. Microscopic observation showed that the epidermal cells of petals, leaves, and seed coats of transgenic plants became smaller. The transcriptional levels of endogenous genes, such as NtCYCDs, NtSTM, NtKNAT1, and NtASs, were upregulated by PsnCYCD1;1. Therefore, PsnCYCD1;1 gene played an important role in the regulation of flower organ and stem development, providing new understanding for the functional characterization of CYCD gene and new resources for improving the ornamental value of horticultural plants.

RESUMO

We attempted to analyze the clinical value of microRNA (miR)-590-3p in diabetic nephropathy (DN) patients and its role in high glucose (HG)-induced renal tubular epithelial cell (HK-2) injury. Serum levels of miR-590-3p were detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Spearman correlation coefficient analysis of the correlation between miR-590-3p and clinical indicators. The diagnostic value of miR-590-3p was analyzed by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Then, the DN cell model induced by HG in HK-2 cells was established. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), flow cytometry, and CCK-8 assay were employed to assess cell inflammation, oxidative stress, apoptosis, and proliferation. Dual-luciferase reporter assay confirmed the target of miR-590-3p. Serum miR-590-3p was reduced in patients of DN, which was positively correlated with eGFR and negatively associated with albuminuria. Furthermore, miR-590-3p also can diagnose patients of DN from healthy subjects or patients of T2DM. Furthermore, miR-590-3p was decreased in a concentration- and time-dependent manner during HG-induction. miR-590-3p overexpression bated HG-induced inhibition effect on cell proliferation and promotion effects on apoptosis, oxidative stress, and inflammation. C-X3-C motif chemokine ligand1 (CX3CL1) is the target of miR-590-3p, whose levels were enhanced in DN patients and are negatively regulated by miR-590-3p. Our discoveries offered new insights that reduced miR-590-3p as a potential biomarker for the diagnosis of DN, and elevated miR-590-3p can alleviate renal tubular injury by HG-induced through targeting CX3XL1, which may be a novel target for improving the development of DN.

RESUMO

d-type cyclins (CYCDs) are a special class of cyclins and play extremely important roles in plant growth and development. In the plant kingdom, most of the existing studies on CYCDs have been done on herbaceous plants, with few on perennial woody plants. Here, we identified a Populus d-type cyclin gene, PsnCYCD1;1, which is mainly transcribed in leaf buds and stems. The promoter of PsnCYCD1;1 activated GUS gene expression and transgenic Arabidopsis lines were strongly GUS stained in whole seedlings and mature anthers. Moreover, subcellular localization analysis showed the fluorescence signal of PsnCYCD1;1-GFP fusion protein is present in the nucleus. Furthermore, overexpression of the PsnCYCD1;1 gene in Arabidopsis can promote cell division and lead to small cell generation and cytokinin response, resulting in curved leaves and twisted inflorescence stems. Moreover, the transcriptional levels of endogenous genes, such as ASs, KNATs, EXP10, and PHB, were upregulated by PsnCYCD1;1. Together, our results indicated that PsnCYCD1;1 participates in cell division by cytokinin response, providing new information on controlling plant architecture in woody plants.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been considered as pivotal biomarkers in Diabetic nephropathy (DN). CircRNA ARP2 actin-related protein 2 homolog (circ-ACTR2) could promote the HG-induced cell injury in DN. However, how circ-ACTR2 acts in DN is still unclear. This study aimed to explore the molecular mechanism of circ-ACTR2 in DN progression, intending to provide support for the diagnostic and therapeutic potentials of circ-ACTR2 in DN. METHODS: RNA expression analysis was conducted by the quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Cell growth was measured via Cell Counting Kit-8 and EdU assays. Inflammatory response was assessed by Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The protein detection was performed via western blot. Oxidative stress was evaluated by the commercial kits. The molecular interaction was affirmed through dual-luciferase reporter and RNA immunoprecipitation assays. RESULTS: Circ-ACTR2 level was upregulated in DN samples and high glucose (HG)-treated human renal mesangial cells (HRMCs). Silencing the circ-ACTR2 expression partly abolished the HG-induced cell proliferation, inflammation and extracellular matrix accumulation and oxidative stress in HRMCs. Circ-ACTR2 was confirmed as a sponge for miR-205-5p. Circ-ACTR2 regulated the effects of HG on HRMCs by targeting miR-205-5p. MiR-205-5p directly targeted high-mobility group AT-hook 2 (HMGA2), and HMGA2 downregulation also protected against cell injury in HG-treated HRMCs. HG-mediated cell dysfunction was repressed by miR-205-5p/HMGA2 axis. Moreover, circ-ACTR2 increased the expression of HMGA2 through the sponge effect on miR-205-5p in HG-treated HRMCs. CONCLUSION: All data have manifested that circ-ACTR2 contributed to the HG-induced DN progression in HRMCs by the mediation of miR-205-5p/HMGA2 axis.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: In this cross-sectional survey, we sought to determine the prevalence of and the influence of prenatal and neonatal factors on childhood visual impairment without correction (VIUC) in a paediatric population from Guangzhou, China. SETTING: The health survey covered 11 administrative districts in Guangzhou, including 991 schools. PARTICIPANTS: All of the primary and middle school students in Guangzhou were invited to complete an online questionnaire with the help of their parents. The results of physical examinations were reported by school medical departments. The results of the questionnaire were collected by the researchers. In total, 253 301 questionnaires were collected. PRIMARY OUTCOME MEASURES: The students' uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) was examined by trained optometrists by standard logarithmic visual acuity charts. VIUC was defined by UCVA (of the better eye) (UCVA <6/12) with three levels: light VIUC (UCVA ≥6/18 to <6/12), mild VIUC (UCVA ≥6/60 to <6/18) and severe VIUC (UCVA <6/60). RESULTS: A total of 39 768 individuals (15.7%) had VIUC, and the rate was much higher among grade 10 to 12 students (51.4%) than among grade 1 to 6 students (6.71%). The following factors were significantly associated with an increased risk of VIUC: female gender, high birth weight, formula feeding, not having siblings, higher level of parents' education, parental myopia, much homework time and little outdoor activity. Delivery mode was not associated with the risk of VIUC. CONCLUSIONS: This study validates known major prenatal/genetic, perinatal and postnatal factors for childhood VIUC. In conclusion, prenatal and perinatal factors can affect the onset of childhood VIUC, but parental myopia and postnatal factors are the main factors.

RESUMO

Objectives: To analyze and compare concentrations of amino acids (AAs) and acylcarnitine (AC) profiles in maternal-fetal serum from women with preeclampsia (PE) and to assess their use as possible predictors of PE.Methods: This is a retrospective study in which we enrolled a total of 38 pregnant women and their offspring. Pregnant women with PE (n = 14) and healthy pregnant control subjects (n = 24) participated voluntarily in the study. Maternal blood and cord blood were tested using dry blood spot (DBS) specimens, and we detected concentrations of 18 types of AAs and 31 types of AC by using high-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS), and compared metabolites between the groups. We used logistic regression modeling to estimate the association of each metabolite with development of PE.Results: Concentrations of most AAs and AC in PE mothers were significantly higher than those in the group of control mothers. Cord plasma concentrations of AC in most PE mothers were significantly higher than those in controls; however, in PE, levels of cord plasma concentrations of most AAs were significantly lower, except for Gly, compared with controls. Levels of most AAs and AC were lower in the control and PE groups, with a tendency for lower levels in maternal blood compared to cord blood. Receiver operating characteristics (ROC) and areas under the curves (AUC) analyses using these metabolites did not predict PE individually. Conclusions: Maternal-fetal levels of AAs and AC were associated with PE. But the use of metabolites did not constitute a reliable method for use as a biomarker in the diagnosis of PE. Further prospective studies are needed to clarify the roles of different metabolites involved in the mechanism underlying the development of PE.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Allergic diseases, such as asthma, dermatitis, rhinitis, and eczema, are highly prevalent in Chinese school children. Environmental factors, including air pollution and automobile exhaust, play an important role in the etiology of these diseases. However, prenatal and neonatal factors, such as gender, maternal diseases during pregnancy, and premature birth, may also be associated with allergic disease occurrence. The objective of this study was to explore prenatal and neonatal factors that are involved in the development of allergic diseases among primary and middle school students in Guangzhou, China. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was launched by the Health Promotion Centre for Primary and Secondary Schools of the Guangzhou Municipality in October 2017. All primary and middle school students in Guangzhou were notified to participate in the questionnaire online under the direction of their parents. The results of the physical examination were reported by the schools' medical department. The results of the questionnaire were collected and analyzed by the researchers. The prevalence of asthma, allergic rhinitis, allergic dermatitis, and eczema was identified. RESULTS: Based on reported 183,449 questionnaires and medical records, the data indicate that the sex, birth weight, neonatal feeding type, delivery mode, and students' father smoking status were significantly associated with the prevalence of all four allergic diseases in primary and middle school children. In further stratified analyses of the children with normal birth weight (2500-4000 g) and without any maternal diseases during pregnancy, the factors of male sex, high birth weight, cesarean delivery, and father smoking status all increased the risk of asthma, dermatitis, rhinitis, and eczema. Also, unlike exclusive breastfeeding, breast plus formula feeding increased these risks, but pure formula feeding had the opposite effect. CONCLUSION: Prenatal and neonatal factors, including male sex, high birth weight, cesarean delivery, only child, and father smoking status are associated with the risks of allergic diseases in school children.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Head circumference is considered a reliable assessment of the volume of the underlying brain. We sought to identify risk factors (maternal factors or antenatal antecedents) for microcephaly and to assess the effects of microcephaly on neonatal outcomes. DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study. SETTING: Data for all births in 2009-2017 were obtained from the Guangzhou Maternal-Fetal Care Database. PARTICIPANTS: All singleton liveborn infants between 33 and 42 weeks' gestation (n=45 663) were categorised using the Intergrowth-21st standard for microcephaly. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Prevalence of mild, absolute and relative microcephaly at birth. We estimated associations of (1) maternal characteristics including Cantonese origin, parity, exposure to teratogens, TORCH infections (ie, Toxoplasma gondii, rubella virus, cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex virus), in vitro fertilisation conception, pre-eclampsia and maternal congenital anomalies with risk of each category of microcephaly, and (2) microcephaly with risk of in-hospital mortality and severe morbidity. RESULTS: A total of 2709 infants had a head circumference z-score >2 SD, resulting in an overall prevalence of microcephaly of 59.3 per 1000 infants, consisting of mild (54.1 per 1000), absolute (2.8 per 1000) and relative microcephaly (2.4 per 1000). In multiple logistic regression, absolute microcephaly was associated with in utero exposure to teratogens (OR 4.2, 95% CI 2.0 to 8.8) and TORCH agents (OR 3.2, 95% CI 1.1 to 9.5). Mild microcephaly was associated with Cantonese descent (OR) 1.5, 95% CI 1.3 to 1.7) and primiparity (OR 1.7, 95% CI 1.5 to 2.0). Absolute microcephaly was associated with a significantly higher odds of neonatal seizure (OR 8.7, 95% CI 1.1 to 69.1). Mild microcephaly was not associated with adverse neonatal outcomes overall. CONCLUSIONS: Cantonese origin, exposure to teratogens, pre-eclampsia and TORCH infection may be risk factors for microcephaly. The high prevalence of relative microcephaly and associated poor outcomes suggests that high-risk women merit closer clinical management and follow-up to maximise fetal head development during pregnancy.

RESUMO

Parental exposure to cigarette smoke is closely related to the development of long-term metabolic diseases in the offspring. However, different exposure times at various developmental stages may cause these effects to vary. In this study, mice were exposed to cigarette smoke condensate (CSC) during the developmental time stages of paternal puberty or/and maternal pregnancy. The results showed that either paternal or maternal exposure to CSC could lead to increased low birth weight (LBW) and fetal growth restriction (FGR) of the offspring, but maternal factors were the leading ones. Moreover, maternal exposure during pregnancy could induce lipid metabolism abnormalities in the adulthood offspring. Most importantly, additional paternal CSC exposure further induced diabetes in adolescent offspring who experienced altered weight gain, blood lipids, and glucose metabolism. A preliminary analysis indicated that the offspring with metabolic abnormalities also had significant changes in their intestinal microbiota. In conclusion, this study showed that parental CSC exposure has an impact on the metabolic properties of the offspring, and multiple parental exposures to adverse factors may significantly increase the risk of long-term metabolic abnormalities.

RESUMO

This study aimed to evaluate the values of thoracic multi-slice spiral computed tomography (CT) in the diagnosis of incidental pulmonary thromboembolism (IPTE) in patients with malignant tumors. The clinical data and imaging features of a total of 1,684 patients with malignant tumors, treated in the Fourth Hospital of Hebei Medical University, were analyzed retrospectively in order to investigate the types of malignancies, the patients' clinical features, and the emboli-preferred sites. Among the 1,684 patients, 60 patients had experienced IPTE (3.56%), 35 were females (58.33%), 25 were males (41.67%). Lung cancer had the highest incidence (n=22, 36.67%). The most common site of IPTE was the left lower lobe of pulmonary artery (n=46, 76.67%). The imaging results revealed that in 5 patients (8.33%) IPTE did not occur. Thoracic multi-slice spiral CT has a high detection rate of IPTE in patients with malignant tumors. Early diagnosis is helpful for early clinical treatment and has significant importance for patients' prognosis.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To compare the hemostatic effect of hematostatic agent Surgiflo and absorbable gelatin sponge (AGS) in posterior lumbar surgery. METHODS: A total of 60 cases were recruited during August 2016 and June 2017 according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Patients were randomly allocated to the Surgiflo Haemostatic Matrix (SHM) group or the AGS group (AGS) by computer-generated randomization codes. The success rates of hemostasis for 3 minutes and 5 minutes, the time of operation, the amount of intraoperative bleeding, the volume of autogenously blood transfusion, the amount of blood during hemostasis, the amount of blood transfusion, and BP, RBC, HCT, HB of preoperative, 2 to 3 days, and 5 to 7 days following operation were recorded to compare. Daily drainage and all adverse events after operation were also compared. RESULTS: All the patients were followed up for at least 1 month. The RBC and HCT of the AGS group before operation were lower than those in the control group (P = .039, P = .029), but there was no difference after operation (P >.05). In the control group, 19 cases were successfully hemostatic in 3 minutes, 4 cases were successful in 5 minutes, and 7 cases were combined with hemostasis. In the SHM group, it was 22, 3, and 5 cases respectively. There was significant difference in blood loss during hemostatic process between the 2 groups (P <.001). There was no difference in the amount of blood loss and autologous blood transfusion between the 2 groups, and there was no difference in the operation time between the 2 groups. In the AGS group, allogeneic blood was infused in 1 case during operation, and no allogeneic blood was infused in the other patients. The drainage volume on the 1st day and the 2nd to 4th day after operation in the AGS group was less than that in the control group (P = .015, P = .010). CONCLUSION: Compared with AGS, SHM could decrease the blood loss during hemostatic process and the postoperative drainage volume in posterior operation of lumbar degenerative disease. SHM is a safe and effective hemostatic agent in lumbar posterior surgery.

RESUMO

This research aims to explore the accurate incidence, severity and outcomes of dysphagia and dysphonia after Hangman fractures.A total of 93 patients were included in this study and clinical data were reviewed. The Bazaz grading system (0-None; 1-Mild; 2-Moderate; 3-Severe) was used for dysphagia evaluation and the Voice Handicap Index-10 used to evaluate dysphonia. In all of the patients, evaluation of dysphagia and dysphonia was performed preoperatively and at 1 week, 1 month, 3, 6, and 12 months after surgery. SPSS 22.0 software (SPSS Inc, Chicago, IL) was used for all statistical analyses.Posttraumatic immediate dysphagia was found in 8 patients and posttraumatic immediate dysphonia was observed in 3 patients. The incidence of dysphagia was 22.6% at the 1st week, 16.1% at the 1st month, and 9.7% at the 3rd month of follow-up. The incidence of dysphonia was 24.5% at the 1st week, 11.3% at the 1st month, and 3.8% at the 3rd month of follow-up.Posttraumatic immediate dysphagia and dysphonia occurred and the anterior surgical approach was associated with a higher incidence of dysphagia compared to posterior surgery and nonoperative patients. Most dysphagia and dysphonia were mild and gradually decreased during the subsequent 3 months after surgery. Future prospective, randomized studies with larger sample sizes are required to validate these data.
